Rafael E. Cuza Freire
Rafael Eriberto Cuza Freire was born in San Luis, Santiago de Cuba March 16, 1959. That same year his family moved to Holguin, where he currently resides. Rafael has developed an artistic self expression with a cubist perspective, influenced by surrealism such as Wilfredo Lam’s, due to Lam’s use of images and symbols in his paintings, which has a lot in common with the figures that Rafael creates from bones. The artist uses leftover bones from cattle, wood, and jute in his creations.
Rafael has participated in numerous single and collective exhibitions in Cuba. His art is in private collections in Mexico, England, Cuba, Italy, Spain, Canada, and the United States. He is a member of the Cuban Artisan Association.
